no Chicago and Northern Indiana Railroad Interlocking Towers

William Shapotkin posted three photos with the comment: "Here are three pix of JN Interlocking (25th Ave in Melrose Park, IL) on the C&NW. Note that (in the interior photo) JN also controlled Vale Interlocking (River Forest) remotely."

Vale is now CPY010 and my 2005 SPV Map shows it is east of a river and west of the River Forest station. So I assume this is it.

I searched for this tower in a 1938 aerialsabout a year ago, but I could not find it. These photos provided better clues as to its location, and I believe I did find it in this image.

Knowing where it was, it was easy to find it on an older photo.

Big Tunnel: ( Bridge Hunter , indianarrtunnels ) Big Tunnel:  Satellite plus Paint Originally built in 1857 for the Ohio & Mississippi Railroad and since controlled by the B & O, it is now a part of CSX. It was shortened and brick lined in 1898. A 1700 foot companion tunnel known as "Little Tunnel" was 'daylighted' (turned into a cut) in 1899. [Bridge Hunter] It was dug for a 6-foot gauge railroad. I believe it runs between Mitchel and somewhere east of North Vernon. New York City water supply

I've noticed that NYC and Los Angeles have to pay a lot for water supply whereas Chicago has to pay a lot for water removal. I knew NYC dammed rivers in the mountains that are north of the city and then used tunnels (aqueducts) to transport the water into the city. What I did not know, until I studied the Cannonsville Dam , is that they also get water from the Delaware River watershed, which is a lot further away. Since I found this overview map, I'm writing this post to record it. Project Description , page 6 from nyc.gov A NY Times article about a leak in the Cannonsville Dam focuses on the people aspect of the dam. If you look at the map, Deposit, NY is downstream of the Cannonsville Dam. The residents are still bitter that 1000 people, including entire towns, were displaced over a half-century ago when the dam was built.
